Top marks for cycling proficiency

THESE young people posed for the Observer camera in February 1988.
Eleven former pupils of Pebsham Primary School had scored top marks over 378 cyclists in the Rother area to win the annual Rother Cup for cycling proficiency.
The cup was presented to the school attaining the highest average mark for the cycling proficiency test under the national scheme.
A HEALTHY dose of cheating allowed Rosemary Downing - Waite to come up trumps, her son Mark appears in the photograph. Rosemary said: "It's from 1987 and at Pebsham School."
She identified the event as the awarding of the Rother Cup, a trophy presented to the school with the top cycling proficiency marks.
Rosemary was a teaching assistant at the school for 21 years until she retired in July.
