3rd Bexhill Scout Group
St Georges Day, 1978

THESE Cub Scouts pictured were all members of the 3rd Bexhill Scout Group, based at St Michael's Church.
Maureen Measures, who submitted the picture, says it was taken at the St George's Day Parade in 1978, and includes her son.
Maureen says: “My son Mark can see someone called Sean in the left foreground, himself, Steven Blackman (second row, left) and Malcolm Cheese.
“The Akela was Joy Doswell and Chill was Steven Blackwell's dad, but we can't remember his Christian name,.
“The other names escape us, unfortunately.”
HAPPY memories were revived for Steve Doswell when he looked. He e-mails: “It shows the 3rd Bexhill (Darzee) Cubs in about 1982-83 on what I presume was a St George’s Day parade.
“The Akela (leader) at the back is Joy Doswell, who spent an enormous amount of time, effort and energy keeping us boys in check and entertained.
“Joy still lives in the Old Town and shows off her cottage garden every year.
“Working from left to right, is my brother, Chris Doswell (still lives in the town with a young family and rows for Bexhill Rowing Club); Joe Scrivener; next to the flag-bearer is Alexis Day.
“The only other one I can recognise is myself - standing on the right hand side with the scary hair and looking over the Cub at the front’s shoulder.
“I still live in the town and row for Bexhill Rowing Club.
“I don’t remember the event but I do remember that Cubs gave us all a lot of enjoyment and a chance to do a lot of different activities that ordinarily we would not have had a chance to try out .
“All in all, happy memories.”
